Just like in car mechanics, an engineer will have many tools to perform a job. Just like a car mechanic, we prefer to use the right tool for the job. Yes, we know the existence of the adjustable spanner and the hammer (to get things to fit) but these tools have their downsides. In the case of the adjustable spanner, you tend to round-off the head of the bolt or nut you are trying to tighen or loosen, and generally the tool slips and your round-off the end of your knuckles too!
